Quick stop in Bratislava (Slovakia)

After 3 nights in Prague, we set off on a 6 hour bus ride to Budapest. So just to be cool and add another country to our list, we stopped in Slovakia.  We went on a very brief tour of the city, had some lunch and then set back on the road.

These little corona (crown) symbols found throughout the streets point you in the direction of the palace/really important royal building I don't quite remember the details who haha.  Terrible tourist.  Hey give me a break, I'm trying to remember details after 6 months!

My student, Jorge, and me.

Fun little statue....I am a fan of fun little statues.

This was one of the hottest afternoons I remember the entire time I was in Europe.  Here you will see one of my students attempting to make shade haha.

Hot, tired and bored students waiting for the bus to continue the journey to Budapest.

Here I am with one of my students who everyone called "The Philosopher"....haha to be honest, I don't remember his real name!!  Just ....The Philosopher.

Welp, good times, Bratislava.  Catch ya later....

School trip: Praga, Republica Cheka

After I finished my teaching contract in the end of May, I waited around to endure in my last hoorah with my students : class trip to Praga.  We flew to Prague, where we then stayed for 4 days. Beautiful, old city.  I have never seen anything like it.  Like most of my pictures on this blog, pictures can only attempt to depict the incredible beauty and sense of being there.  Here is my trip to Prague in pictures. :)

So the next pictures do not depict old Prague, but rather the bizarre wall hangings found in our hotel.

Bowling with my students in the bowling alley found in the hotel's basement.

Old Town Square.

One of my favorite students, Ivan. :) Te echo mucho de menos!!

These next pictures are the clock tower that has been around forever in the Old Town Square.  Every hour on the hour, a little door opens up and mechanical people come out.  There is a statue like the grim reaper who acts like he is chasing the normal people. The people are shaking there heads and running from them, as saying, "no, not time for you yet."  After this little mechanical show, a man dressed in old time clothes plays the trumpet at the top of the tower.  Very cool.

I remember I took this picture because I was SO excited to see foods other than the same foods always eaten in Spain.  No offense Spain, I love me some jamon, but I like a variety at times...

Scary puppets.

Mis guapas y yo :)  I miss my girls!!!!

Out to lunch with the profesores.  Here is Maritina and Mario.

Luis Antonio and Ana.

A delicious pivo (beer in the Czech language)

This was interesting...the servers' technique of keeping track of orders.  They would use a blank paper and mark unmarked tallies.  It would just stay on the edge of the table.

I forget if this was Goulash?  We always ordered a bunch of random plates and shared.  Whatever it was, it was SO GOOD!  Just very simple plates of hearty meat, potatoes and sauce.  So good.

Absinth is no big deal in Europe lol.

Here was a very interesting tour of a Jewish cemetery.

Claudia y yo.  I miss you!!

The very pretty aftermath of the ankle I sprained 2 days before leaving for the Prague trip.

My student Manuel, aka MANUUU, and me.

Me in front of the palace.

Ivan and me after the changing of the guard.  This poor guy had to be so tired of obnoxious tourists taking pictures with him.

The beautiful Cathedral.

Inside the cathedral with Elena.  The stained glass was absolutely amazing.

A bizarre statue in one of the streets of Prague.

Raul putting on a breakdancing show in the street while we were waiting for our bus.  It was so funny, some people walked by and threw some change down for him.

Looks like Spain isn't the only European country who just thinks of a random English word they like and uses it to name a storefront property.

An afternoon trip to Karlovy Vary.  This city is known for natural hot spring spas.

Really good wafer cookies that are famous for this area.  It is said that the natural spring water is a special ingredient for these delicious little pastries.

These are the cute ceramic mugs sold everywhere for people to buy to drink the spring water fountains found throughout the city.
